basically, the DDS can generated a continue waveform(CW). If you want to do the arbitratry waveform generator, you need use the look-up table to place your waveform data. BTW, you also need to concern about the continuity to the different waveform segment. In CPLD, you can use the dedicated RAM to store your waveform.
